NOTE: I discourage using wikipedia as a wholly reliable source, however, it can provide a basic understanding and at least a starting point for further pursuits. As with most things online, claims have to be carefully verified and substantiated.
The second segment of Unorthodoxy with Witch Zaftig will air in a couple of weeks on Rev. Campbell’s 9sense Podcast, in which I answer listener questions. I can answer anything related to new religions (Scientology to Moonies to Raeliens), ritual (theory and practice), magic, and even questions about religion in general, or how scholars approach the study of religion itself. Fun fact: the text I’m reading (remixed by Rev. Campbell) in the intro is an excerpt from Agrippa’s De Occulta Philosophia (or Three Books of Occult Philosophy), circa 1531, chapter 50, titled, “Of Fascination, and the Art Thereof”:
Fascination is a binding which comes from the spirit of the witch, through the eyes of him that is bewitched, entering into his heart. Now the instrument of fascination is the spirit, viz. a certain pure, lucid, subtle vapour, generated of the purer blood, by the heat of the heart. … Know therefore that men are then most bewitched, and when with often beholding they direct the edge of their sight to the edge of their sight that bewitch them, and whey their eyes are reciprocally intent one upon the other, and when rays are joined to rays, and lights to lights, for then the spirit of the one is joined to the spirit of the other, and fixeth its sparks: so are strong ligations made, and so most vehement loves are inflamed with only with rays of the eyes.
